FOUNDERS + FUTURE MEMBERS

A founder is a visionary willing to take risks and leap into the unknown – they start the group, do the research, find the right land and people, make lots of decisions, and blaze the trail.  They are active co-creators, who build/manifest the community from the ground up (its vision documents, guiding principles, mission/goals/values, its structure/organization and set of governing rules).  Here is an excerpt from Diana Leafe Christensen’s Creating A Life Together on  “What Kind of Person Founds a Community?”

A future member is someone who waits and watches from the sidelines to see how the founders group will pull it off. If they like what they see, and have similar interests and values they can join based on a set of requirements established by the founders group. (These requirements will likely include a trial period where they attend meetings, heart-shares and community events/potlucks, learn about non-violent communication and consensus decision making, agree to rules/guidelines, and buy into the property/pay dues).  After becoming a member, each person will have the same rights, responsibilities, and power as all other members.

We need both founders and future members for our community!

Founder Application

If you are based on the Big Island* and want to participate in weekly in-person meetings in the Pahoa area to co-create the community in which you eventually want to live, then complete our New Founder Application Form. Before attending a meeting we’ll ask you to read Chapters 2-5 of Creating A Life Together (purchase link) to better understand what’s involved in creating an intentional community.

*If you don’t live on the Big Island but are seriously interested in this vision of community and would like to play a part in the founding please contact us and we’ll work out the details.
